ROAD MAINTENANCE TRAINING USING DO-NOU TECHNOLOGY FROM JAPAN
What is Do-nou?
Do-nou is Japanese Word that means wrapping soil in a gunny bag. Do-nou technology involves use of gunny bags filled appropriately with murrum sand, gravel or farm soil and tightly tied to repair impassable roads.
Why is it an appropriate technology?
Make use of locally available materials
(Gunny bags.Murrum/gravel/Sand)
It is purely labor-based technology, hence it creates employment.
It is easy to learn and adapt, hence it is sustainable.
With simple maintenance preferably after every rainy season, the road is durable.
Uniqueness of Do-nou training
Bring a strong tie/bond among the members.
Easy to understand among the community people.
All season passable road to market.
Attitude change of the community from passive to active.
