CALL FOR INTERESTED BOOK PUBLISHERS FOR PRE-QUALIFICATION AND FWA TO SUPPLY  KINYARWANDA CHILDREN’S BOOKS

Save the Children invites interested book publishers to submit book titles and prices during a selection of publishers to support and/or partner as part of Save the Children programs.

Interested Book publishers are advised to collect tender documents at save the children offices starting 5th February 2018.

The deadline for bids submission is 22 February 2018.

We will offer a range of capacity building and development opportunities including business development, providing technical support on the development of Kinyarwanda children’s books appropriate for the ages 0-9 years. We would particularly like to expand the range of books for young children, including:

  • Concept books, including age-appropriate topics such as shapes, colors, opposites, counting and word books
  • Traditional folktales books
  • Children’s book that celebrate the Rwandan culture and values
  • Gender and social inclusion
  • Alphabet books
  • Simple pictures books
  • Books based on well-known Kinyarwanda songs or  rhyme
  • Collections of poems
  • Other types of children’s books

Opportunity for publishers

Established Rwandan publishers who produced Kinyarwanda children’s books for the 0-9 are invited to participate in our children’s book development program. We will use the following requirements for selection:

The applicants must:

  • Be a Rwandan publisher with the business indigenous to Rwanda (born and has the parent company created and registered in Rwanda); this means the publishing house is not a multi-national founded in other country than Rwanda or is not affiliated, representing, or sub-contracted by any publishing house founded in other country than Rwanda.
  • Demonstrate evidence of publishing Kinyarwanda children’s books for the 0-9
  • Demonstrate evidence of work, collaboration, or partnership with any institution of the government of Rwanda (REB, MINISPOC, RALC, etc. ), civil society, and other relevant institutions
  • Work mainly with Rwandan writers and Rwandan illustrators
  • Be willing to continuously receive feedback to edit and improve new title development
  • Regularly participate in events promoting the local publishing industry such as Book Purchasing Consortium, Children’s Book Forum, Book Campaign, Book Fairs, Literacy Week, Literacy Month, and Abana Writers’ Café
  • Willing to avail books to local booksellers stocking children’s titles
  • Agree to a corporate social responsibility commitment that support the advancement of a reading culture in Rwanda by organizing events or providing resources/financing to a minimum of three literacy promotion initiatives per calendar year, (initiative to be selected and determined by the respective publisher).
  • Preferably, be a member or aspiring member of the Rwandan Children’s Book Organization.
