Pivot Works is a city-scale treatment solution that converts human waste into renewable fuel. By creating fuel from waste and selling to industrial customers like cement companies, Pivot Works shifts the cost burden of sanitation away from poor urban citizens.

Lab Technician

Position description

The LabTechnician is in charge of sample collection and laboratory analyses.

The Lab Technician’s key responsibilities include:

  • Collecting samples across the Pivot Works waste-to-fuel process including incoming fecal sludge, effluent, and fuel;
  • Analyzing samples for parameters including but not limited to, moisture content, calorific value, fecal coliform;
  • Entering data into logbooks and digital spreadsheets; and
  • Maintaining a clean and organized laboratory.

Key expectations of the Lab Technician include:

  • Ability to work independently;
  • Highly detail oriented;
  • Adept at following lab procedures and protocols;
  • Aptitude for data collection and organization; and
  • Ability to communicate results to peers.


  • B.S. in related field of biology or other sciences;
  • Experience working in a laboratory;
  • Demonstrated understanding of principles of experimental design and standard methods;
  • Proficient with data entry;
  • Fluent in English and Kinyarwandan.
