RCSF PROJECT DIRECTOR

The Rwanda Cricket Stadium Foundation (RCSF)/ Cricket Builds Hope requires a new Project Director to oversee its transition from a construction project to a new charity that uses cricket as a tool for social change in Rwanda.

RCSF began in 2011 and has raised over E1m to build Rwanda’s first proper cricket ground, which opens in October 2017. Once the ground opens, RCSF will change from a charity that built a cricket ground to one that uses that cricket for social change, specifically tackling gender based violence, working with refugees, and promoting the testing of HIV and AIDS.

The Board of Trustees is looking for a Project Director with experience of sport and development to manage the transition from RCSF to Cricket Builds Hope. The charity has already signed partnerships with the UNHCR, Rwanda Biomedical Centre and Women Win to develop programmes that support its aims. The new Project Director will be responsible for putting these partnerships into action, help to develop the programmes and ensure that they are properly monitored and evaluated.

The RCSF Board of Trustees consists of a dedicated group of volunteers. Patrons of the charity include former Prime Minister David Cameron, Andrew Mitchell MP, Lord Chadlington and cricketers Brian Lara, Jonathan Agnew, Makhaya Ntini and Clare Connor.

Ideally the new Project Director will be available to take up their employment in advance of October 2017 so they can assist with the preparations for the opening ceremony and get ready to hit the ground running in November.

PROJECT DIRECTOR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The role of RCSF/Cricket Builds Hope Project Director will be hugely challenging, but immensely exciting and rewarding. The Project Director will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, and responsible for all aspects of the charity, including the following:

Business

  • Developing and implementing the business plan and maintenance strategy for the new ground
  • Working with partner organisations to develop and implement Cricket Builds Hope programmes
  • Monitoring and evaluating Cricket Builds Hope programmes to ensure they are robust and meet the charity’s objectives

Finance

  • Supporting the Finance Director with cash flow forecasts and other financial documents to present to the board of trustees
  • Assisting in sharing received invoices from suppliers and assist in raising invoices to debtors with our our local accountant and the Finance Director in Kigali.
  • You will have approving rights for our local Rwanda bank account to make payments to employees and 3rd party workers.
  • Assisting in ensuring that financial and non-financial controls implemented to mitigate our risk are adhered to and to report any issues (or misrepresentation of cash) to the Board of Trustees.
  • Assisting in writing and reviewing the Trustees’ Annual Report to ensure that it contains all required information, while promoting the objectives of the charity

Partnerships

  • Dealing with sponsors (Yorkshire Tea, Volcanoes Safaris, Surrey CCC, Sporting Wine Club) and developing further partnerships with organisations such as Comic Relief, the ECB and the ICC
  • Monitoring compliance by RCSF/Cricket Builds Hope with its obligations under MOUs, usage agreement and funding agreements with partner organisations
  • Working closely with the Rwanda Cricket Association in the development of the new ground

Fundraising/Marketing

  • Managing the brand transition from RCSF to Cricket Builds Hope, establishing the latter as a recognisable brand.
  • Assisting with organisation of charity events in aid of RCSF/Cricket Builds Hope
  • Maintaining and updating the RCSF/CBH website and social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Newsletter)

Media/Communications

  • Dealing with media requests and acting as a spokesman for Cricket Builds Hope
  • Developing and editing communications material for the organisation such as brochures, website material, social media posts, posters, electronic newsletters
  • Giving presentations talks to donors, schools, media etc

General

  • Attending and taking minutes at trustee meetings every two months on Skype or in person.
  • Managing relationships and communications with the Board of Trustees and Advisors
  • Taking the lead in ensuring compliance with charity and other regulations in relation to RCSF and its related Rwandan entity

  • Organising and storing charity and other key documentation on dropbox

Qualifications, Skills & Character

  • The Project Director will be educated to graduate level or beyond. They will be an articulate, ambitious and personable professional with excellent written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and imaginatively, and also as a part of a team.
  • Experience in the sport and development sector is essential. They will be passionate about sport, particularly cricket, and the role it can play in reconciliation.
  • They will be comfortable working with a wide range of people, from or a major UK corporate sponsor, to a young Rwandan cricketer who may speak little English
  • They will have a proven ability to lead. They will be persistent, thick-skinned and incapable of taking no for an answer.

Supplementary Information

  • You will be managed by the Board of Trustees normally acting through its Chair
  • You will be required to attend bimonthly Trustee meeting on Skype/in person in UK
  • The Board of Trustees is very experienced and on hand to help with technical issues

  • All other terms and condition will be fully described in the contract of employment
