Africa Improved Foods is a manufacturer of highly nutritious quality fortified foods. Purpose of the job

The Sales & Distribution Manager - Local Market will be responsible for developing and implementing a sales & distribution plan, and a market penetration strategy for AIF products in order to grow the revenues.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic self-starter, driven by challenges and with the ambition to turn this new business into a huge commercial success.

Job Content:

The jobholder will be responsible for performing the following duties:

  • Develop and implement a sales & distribution plan for AIF products 
  • Implement effective sales & marketing strategies related to all AIF product ranges 
  • Manage a team of sales & account managers 
  • Build new client relationships offering the companies branded product range and approve terms of business
  • Evaluating information related to sales, promotions, competition and market research
  • Negotiate sales contracts
  • Developing and presenting effective proposals to all stakeholders
  • Manage budgets
  • Review operational records and reports to project sales and determine profitability
  • Represent the company at trade association meetings to promote AIF products
  • Attend local trade shows & exhibitions – working with the Marketing team on new product launches and variety of other market communications initiatives
  • Create an enthusiastic and successful sales environment focusing on thinking outside the box and challenging the norm in business
  • Manage large corporate accounts at a national and regional levels
  • Build and developing strong business relationships with distribution channels.
  • Develop and assessing the marketing strategy to increase customer acquisition and retention
  • Monitor customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts
  • Understand the philosophy and objectives within a dynamic environment
  • Know the strategic selling points, competitive advantages, merchandising standards
  • Ability to analyse and interpret sales data 

Complexity of the job

AIF is a starting company. As a result, the employee needs to have a high level of self-propelling and needs to set up the department from scratch.

In addition to developing a Sales & Distribution strategy, the Sales & Distribution Manager – Local Market will be called to ensure consistent, profitable growth in sales revenues through positive planning, deployment and management of sales personnel.

He/she will be responsible to develop competitive and efficient sales strategies and the distribution channels of the company’s products across Rwanda and in EAC countries.

Knowledge and educational level

Educational level

  • Master’s Degree in Business, Management, Marketing or any relevant field

Discipline related knowledge and experience

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in Sales, Commercial Channel Management, or any related field in a large FMCG organization
  • Ability to multi-task, research and analyse different broker, distribution and retail situations

Required level of professional experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience
  • Proven experience in Sales, Commercial Strategy & Planning, Commercial Operations, Commercial Channel Manager, or any related field in a large FMCG organization
  • Experience in successfully developing and rolling out sales and distribution plans
  • Experience in leading cross functional teams and established track record of working cross functionally at all levels.
