POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

Budget responsibility: Preparing and submitting the list of needed materials to Education Assistant for procurement request and provision of needed materials on a timely basis.

CHILD SAFEGUARDING:

Level 3 - the responsibilities of the post may require the post holder to have regular contact with or access to children or young people

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Secondary Kiswahili Teacher will work with the support of the Education Assistant for planning and conducting Kiswahili teaching and learning activities for students so as to prepare them to be reintegrated to Secondary, Advanced level (Formal Education). The Kiswahili teacher will ensure that they provide high quality Kiswahili lessons by using appropriate teaching materials and teaching aids.

Under the supervision of the Education Assistant, the Secondary Kiswahili Teacher will be responsible for:

  • Planning and conducting Kiswahili lessons in Advanced level classes
  • Preparing and using appropriate teaching aids and other teaching resources
  • Attendance tracking and follow up and provide supportive guidance to students with irregular attendance.
  • Providing and marking homework for Kiswahili
  • Preparing, conducting and marking progressive and final assessments for Kiswahili

Perform other responsibilities that may be attributed to him/her by his/her line manager

The Secondary Kiswahili Teacher will ensure that teaching and learning activities are consistent with Save the Children’s programming principles and approaches, draw on relevant best practices and lessons learned, enable children to attain their rights and are compliant with donor regulations.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Active participation in community mobilization to raise awareness for Out of School Children and Youth to go to school;
  • Planning and conducting Kiswahili lessons
  • Teach Kiswahili language subject for students preparing to be reintegrated to Secondary, Advanced level (formal education);
  • Facilitate for reintegration of children to formal Education, follow up and provide constant advice for supporting those children to stay at school;
  • Prepare well their lessons and other pedagogical documents on a daily basis;
  • Attendance tracking for students, provision of appropriate reports and supports for students with problems;
  • Attending teachers meeting and workshops;
  • Constant consultation of books and other education resources in the library to be able to provide quality education to students participating in catch up program;
  • Work in accordance with planned curriculum;
  • Work collaboratively with all Save the children Staff
  • Participate in  all meetings and planning of weekly activities with Education staff;

Program Management

  • Assist the Education Assistant in implementing Education activities
  • Responsible for preparing all pedagogical documents and submit them to Education Assistant for Review.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to students participating in his/her classes

Programme Planning and Implementation:

  • Under support of Education assistant, develop ways to better monitor teaching and learning activities and quality reporting on a regular basis
  • Participate and support staff and other stakeholders where necessary
  • Work closely with Education Officer and Education Assistant in analysing Education issues and complaints raised by children and Youth participating in Alternative and Accelerated Learning Program as well as their parents and other people from the community and support in providing appropriate feedback.
  • Actively, Participate in all staff meetings and provide necessary opinions for any improvement that can be done for Catch up program

Capacity Building and Program quality:

  • Work closely with Education Assistant and other teachers to ensure that Alternative and accelerated Learning Program meet quality benchmarks, and work with the partner staff to achieve quality programming in Education
  • Help strengthen Education System and accountability by supporting systems to seek, receive, and respond to beneficiaries’ feedback, suggestions, and complaints.

Collaboration and Representation:

  • Regularly work in collaboration with other SC sector teams to strengthen programming and impact for children.
  • Regularly attend and participate in different meetings with community leaders, parents or any other meeting related to Alternative and Accelerated Learning Program.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Essential

  • Bachelor’s Degree in teaching Kiswahili language
  • At least 1 years’ experience working in education related field
  • Good technical understanding of Education approaches
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Demonstrate interest and experience in working with vulnerable people
  • Knowledge of English language skills  is an advantage;
  • The ability to communicate professionally and appropriately with children and young people, parents and community members
