ARC works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people and host communities – to better survive conflicts and crisis, and to rebuild lives of dignity, health, security and self-sufficiency. ARC presently works in and with partners in ten countries globally.

ARC has consistently operated in Rwanda since 1994, and today has a strong and committed team of over 200 regular, full time national staff and partners – implementing programs in Primary health care, RH, HIV and Nutrition, WASH, Shelter/Infrastructure, and SGBV & Protection.


ARC seeks to work with partners, communities and displaced persons and refugees, in all therefugee sites in Rwanda to address risk of SGBV – through prevention and mitigation strategies and promoting resilience, and strengthening national and community-based systems that will prevent and mitigate SGBV. The program will also enable survivors and those at risk of SGBV to access care and support. ARC will support local and national capacity to create lasting solutions around SGBV.

ARC islooking for qualified, self-driven and committed individuals to be part of and contribute to accomplishing this NEW ambitious and exciting project - in the position of SGBV Protection Officers. This position is full time, and field based at the assigned Refugee site or Reception Centre.


Key responsibilities:

  • Lead for project protection, partners and community engagement for respective site - – planning, implementation, and support in monitoring and project reporting.
  • Provide trainings to partner staff, other stakeholders at refugee reception and transit centers, including community leaders and staff.
  • Identification of and follow through of addressing protection concerns for communities of concerns, including women and girls in designated sites.
  • Input in developing project protection and communication strategies and materials.
  • Partner and stakeholder collaboration and engagement on protection – including through regular meetings, campaigns, and outreach.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in Social work, law or other similar field.
  • Four years’ direct experience implementing GBV protection in refugees, internally displaced populations, or other post conflict settings.
  • Solid understanding of the principles of protection and behavior change programming; and ability to adapt psychosocial knowledge and skills to cultural context.
  • Knowledge or experience of implementing the SASA! Methodology is an added advantage.
  • Excellent community mobilization skills and experience, and knowledge of SGBV protection, reproductive health and gender issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, with good spoken and written English& local language required. MS Computer competency.
