About One Acre Fund
Founded in 2006, One Acre Fund supplies smallholder farmers with the agricultural services they need to make their farms vastly more productive. We provide quality farm supplies on credit, delivered within walking distance of farmers’ homes, and agricultural training to improve harvests. We measure our success by our ability to make farmers more prosperous: On average, farmers harvest 50 percent more food after working with One Acre Fund.
We are growing quickly. We currently serve more than 800,000 farm families in Eastern and Southern Africa, with more than 7,500 full-time staff, and we aim to serve 1 million farm families by 2020.
As part of the OAF Internships Program, the Global Sourcing team is offering an internship where Interns get the chance to apply knowledge gained in the classroom to a real-life environment and then multiply those dozens of times. From day one, Interns will be an integral part of the team. The internship will be 6 months long, completed in one of the most diverse internship programs in the industry. During the internship, Interns will tackle real challenges, cultivate their curiosity, have client exposure, enjoy both personal and team accomplishments and have their initiative acknowledged along the way. Interns will collaborate and build relationships with colleagues and clients who represent diverse work, culture and resolution styles. The Global Sourcing Team in Rwanda is responsible for sourcing seed, fertilizer, and non-ag products, with a total value of USD 60M over 2 seasons annually. The team ensures inputs are delivered to our OAF Warehouses on-time, in full, at the best price, and at the highest quality.
Expected outcomes and opportunities to practice:
The supply chain intern is responsible for assisting with OAF global sourcing team’s goals to strategically source goods and services, streamline order fulfillment and reduce cost, as we deliver products that meet our customers’ quality and scheduling needs and improve our bottom line. In addition, the intern is given the opportunity to apply skills and gain an understanding of the OAF organization through various OAF events, training, and onboarding programs.
A supply chain intern will be exposed to below opportunities:
- Supply Chain Planning activities: Interns will be assigned projects and/or support existing projects in our department. Your project and work responsibilities may consist of a variety of areas in the supply chain including forecast planning, supply chain planning, scheduling, all while gathering an understanding of other projects in the department.
- Transportation and Logistics activities: Key components of an internship in the global sourcing department will be logistics management and transportation coordination. Interns will gain exposure to inputs handling and management (loading, unloading, Qc, etc.), cost control, transportation coordination, customs clearing and delivery schedule planning. Interns may also have involvement in areas such as operations planning, freight bills, tariff/rate quotations, supplier rating management, and payment processing.
- Sourcing & Procurement: Interns will learn alongside our strategic sourcing team to drive stronger connectivity amongst the agricultural supply chain industry. Interns will provide analytical support, gather supplier data, and conduct marketplace research to better understand how to strategically source goods and services. During their time with us, Interns will learn how to work with a global team and develop stronger relationship building and influencing skills, market analysis capabilities, and strategic thinking.
- Sampling and Quality Control Assistance: As an intern on the global sourcing team you will get experience working with suppliers, and get out of the office and into the field to get hands-on experience.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- PO creation/tracking, RFQ management
- Quality control, sampling and internal testing of inputs
- Supplier visits to understand/check for order processing status and report to your manager
- Lot/batch tracking management tools
- Researching prices on different materials and vendor verification
- Research on legislative and regulatory issues/changes
- Assists and provides support to Purchasing department Managers and requesters.
- Writing of checklists, trackers, reports, and memos,
- Performs assigned duties both independently and as a member of a team
- General duties as assigned, i.e scanning, document pick up, meetings preparations and scheduling, documentation and filing and other routine duties
- Any other tasks as requested by your manager.

Specific qualifications include, but are not limited to:
- Candidate should be pursuing a Supply Chain Management, agriculture, procurement, logistics or related degree and have completed at least one year of the appropriate study
- Experience with Microsoft Office
- Computer skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are essential
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures
- Able to complete a 12-week internship in the summer (May/June - August 2019)
- Must possess a high degree of initiative and resourcefulness in completing work with limited guidance
- Must be able to complete the essential functions of this job as outlined in the job description
- Previous internship or work-related experience is a bonus
- Agriculture inputs procurement Knowledge is a bonus

Interns will be provided with a reasonable stipend for the duration of their contract. Rural area based fellows will be provided assistance in locating suitable housing.
