Student Loan Manager

Operations – Kigali, Kigali City


DESCRIPTION

The Student Loan manager manages all related data and student finance records. Kepler has more than 300 students each year (this is likely to increase) and the maintenance of student financing is critical to long term sustainability of financial operations. The position requires tracking of student payments for fines, laptop loans, and other loan programs. They will also play a role in the development of a student loan program and will be the key contact for our student loaning partners.

Student Loan Manager

Manages the collections and loan services unit of Student Finance at Kepler. This includes supervision of staff, student contact, and account analysis.  He/ she will implement existing policy & ensures the effective, compliant, & efficient completion of monthly financial accounts.

Supervision:

  • Supervises collection and loan service staff

  • Is responsible for hiring permanent and temporary employees in his/her unit and provides input for hiring staff in other units.

Administration:

  • Manages relationships with loan servicing vendors.

  • Creates daily, monthly, annual, &/or project end analysis & excel reports regarding revenue collection

  • Reviews collection agreements with students and response to all student queries as they arise

  • Monitors collection activity of all account and loan programs to minimize default rates; Contacts defaulted students to arrange payment plans, if possible.

  • Explore other options for managing student debt

  • Address student concerns as they arise

  • Manage the relationship between students and the financial institutions.

Training:

  • Provides training and support to students and related university units or program participants; maintains website and training materials in conjunction with the loan provider.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or related field; OR 5 years’ financial administration work experience;

  • High level of detail and willingness to strive for 100% accuracy in all systems; willingness to admit mistakes and correct them immediately

  • Ability to problem solve

  • Computer skills in MS Office, databases and Internet usage

  • Knowledge of accounting and CRM software and/or student loan programs, a plus

  • Customer service skills in working with clients in sensitive situations

  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda 

  • Communication skills, especially writing and Oral
