 Early April 2018 the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) endorsed a new project hereby referred to as ‘Gender Responsive Education And Transformation (GREAT)’ that will help Right To Play to implement project activities based on an MOU signed with the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) from 2018 to 2023. GREAT is being implemented in Bugesera, Kayonza, and Ruhango districts. The GREAT Project works with 62 schools in 10 sectors across the three districts. The Rwanda Country Office is currently searching for a furniture production company to produce school furniture for some schools in the project districts.

Aim: To produce school furniture (desks) in for project schools Bugesera, Kayonza, and Ruhango Districts.

Background: Under the Gender Responsive Education and Transformation (GREAT) project, funding by Global Affairs Canada (GAC), Right To Play has committed to provide desks to a number of schools in the project schools

The specific needs for furniture were identified by RTP therefore the organization would like to hire a furniture company to produce and deliver the furniture. This will be done in line with the Ministry of Education standards and guidelines for furniture to be produced for schools.

Final output:

A total of 576 school desks (for Kayonza - 205, Ruhango - 259 and Bugesera – 112) according to the Ministry of Education’s approved standards and guidelines or designs for furniture.
Division of tasks:

The furniture production company will make the furniture according to the agreed design and measurements that must meet the standards and guidelines of the Rwandan ministry of education and deliver these to the recipient schools.

Right To Play will verify that the correct number of school desks were delivered to the respective schools. Right To Play will also liaise with school authorities, school general assembly committees as well as district education officials in the respective districts to confirm the quality of the furniture meets the expectations of the ministry of education are the corrects ones

Right To Play will be responsible for processing and effecting all the payments according to either contract agreement or purchase order (depending on what will be used to establish the official engagement or assignment of the tender).

Task Description

1. Sign Contract


2. Produce a sample of a school desk according to the standards and design of the ministry of education guidelines. All dimensions and perspectives will need to be respected


3. Right To play and district education officials inspect and approve the sample as a minimum giving recommendations if necessary


4. Produce the school desks


5. Deliver furniture to agreed/designated schools




Technical expertise and requirements

  • Has experience in the production of school furniture with at least three recommendations from past clients.
  • Is tax compliant as will be confirmed by RRA tax clearance certificate including VAT
  • Has a certificate of the RSSB
  • Has the Rwanda Development Board (RDB) registration certificate
