Whenever blocks completely fill a horizontal row or vertical column, the completed line is removed. Clearing lines is important because it gives you more room to place new pieces and helps increase your score.

Beginners often make the mistake of focusing only on filling spaces. Instead, you should always keep the possibility of completing a line in mind.

For example, imagine that a row has only two empty squares remaining and you have a block that can fill those spaces. Placing that block may immediately clear the row. However, another piece may be more useful if it can help you clear two lines at the same time.

As you gain experience, you will begin to recognize these opportunities more quickly.
