JOB ANNOUNCEMENT
I. BACKGROUND
Kigali International Arbitration Centre (KIAC) is an independent body established by an Act of Parliament in 2010 under the auspices of the Rwanda Private Sector Federation in partnership with the Government of Rwanda. KIAC’s principal mandate is to promote, facilitate, and encourage the use of domestic and international arbitration, Commercial Mediation and other forms of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) in Rwanda.
KIAC is seeking to recruit a Case Management and Capacity building Specialist
The Case Management and Capacity Building Specialist assists in various case management matters by playing a supportive role in the work required to support the day to day case management and administration. He/she is responsible for performing routine tasks essential to case success. He/she may also support in designing and providing Arbitration and ADR related capacity building initiatives.
II. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE CASE MANAGEMENT & CAPACITY BUILDING SPECIALIST
- Registration and management of all case files, organizing of arbitration hearings;
- Assisting with scheduling and planning pre-hearing Conference and hearings;
- Liaising with internal and external contacts (maintains contact with parties and arbitral tribunal to monitor and evaluates effectiveness of progress toward of the procedures);
- Facilitating parties to find arbitration venue;
- Responding to users’ questions regarding KIAC Rules of policy and procedure;
- Collecting and reviewing documents, create electronic and physical file and drafts legal pleadings;
- Conducting case needs assessment based on case file to ensure the case meets all the requirements for arbitrability under KIAC;
- Preparing for and attending hearings and Case Management meetings where possible;
- Assessing capacity needs and identifying gaps in terms of Capacity Building of KIAC partners;
- Designing the content for different training programs in collaboration with KIAC’s partners training departments.
- Performing any other responsibility/function/task deemed necessary by his/her supervisor in for effective case management & capacity building.
III. QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE CASE MANAGEMENT & CAPACITY BUILDING SPECIALIST
The successful candidate should be highly motivated and a qualified lawyer with clear understanding of domestic and international arbitration and arbitral institutions. More specifically, he/she should demonstrate a clear understanding of KIAC operations and vision to be a premier dispute resolution Centre in the region and worldwide with at least the minimum qualifications below:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Law;
- A Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice or its equivalent;
- Having undertaken arbitration basic arbitration courses and successfully assessed by relevant institutions;
- Having basic practical experience on arbitration case management/administration will be an added value;
- Full professional fluency in English and Kinyarwanda, while fluency in French in addition to English and Kinyarwanda would be an added value;
- Fully computer literate, proficient in use of Microsoft Word and Excel, particularly in formatting of reports

Incomplete files will not be considered and all documents submitted to the KIAC cannot be withdrawn. Only shortlisted candidates will be invited for exam on dates that will be communicated to them.
