Your challenge and responsibilities:

We are seeking an adaptable, self-driven On-Call Night Facilities Support Technician responsible for providing basic, cross-functional maintenance support and acting as the primary first responder for overnight technical emergencies. While not expected to be a master engineer, this individual must possess a generalized foundational knowledge of campus systems and a strong willingness to learn. Above all, we are looking for a highly accountable, passionate problem-solver and collaborative team player who takes ownership of their work. The technician will ensure that all systems operate safely during the night and that any critical failures are seamlessly stabilized for the day-shift specialists, directly contributing to our standard of operational excellence

Key Emergency Response & Basic Maintenance Duties:

  • First Response: Act as the immediate responder for overnight alarms or failures across the school campus.
  • Electrical & Generators: Provide basic troubleshooting for the school’s electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, and backup power systems (generators and UPS) in the event of power outages. Monitor fuel supplies for generators.
  • Plumbing & Pumps: Address basic plumbing issues, such as immediate leaks and blockages, to prevent water damage. Monitor pump systems (water supply, drainage, and other fluid systems).
  • HVAC & Fire Safety Systems: Perform basic checks on HVAC equipment if issues arise. Monitor fire alarm control panels, investigate activated zones, reset false alarms after verification, and ensure all firefighting systems (sprinklers, hydrants, extinguishers) remain unobstructed.
  • Elevator Systems: Respond immediately to elevator malfunction alerts. Secure the area during breakdowns, coordinate emergency protocols with specialized elevator contractors in the event of entrapments, and perform basic system resets if authorized and safe to do so.
  • CCTV & Security Infrastructure: Support the night security team by troubleshooting offline CCTV cameras, rebooting network video recorders (NVRs), and ensuring that perimeter lighting and electronic access control systems remain fully functional.
  • Kitchen Equipment & Audio-Visual (AV): Monitor commercial kitchen walk-in refrigerators and freezers for overnight temperature alarms. Safely reset tripped commercial cooking equipment and provide basic troubleshooting for advanced AV systems used in auditoriums for early morning events.
  • Safety & Reporting: Secure the area around any major civil works or infrastructure failures (roofs, walls, floors) to ensure safety. Provide detailed, written handover reports to the specialized day team (electricians, plumbers, civil engineers) for advanced repairs.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A high school diploma, vocational certificate, or technical training in general maintenance. (A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is not required, it would be an addition).
  • Experience: Hands-on experience in general facilities maintenance. Experience in an educational or institutional setting is a plus.
  • Technical Knowledge: Foundational understanding of general MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems, engineering best practices and a strong willingness to receive cross-training from specialized staff.
  • Problem-Solving: The ability to stay calm under pressure, assess a system failure during the night, and take immediate action to stabilize the situation and prevent property damage.

Benefits & Compensation

  • A fully equipped school campus with excellent facilities in a beautiful natural setting in Bugesera.
  • An exceptional in-house professional development programme with travel opportunities for further IB professional development.
  • Small learning groups.
  • An extensive and diverse co-curricular programme and the possibility of taking part in or offering co-curricular experiences for students.
  • Collaboration with an experienced, internationally recognized school in Germany.
  • Various partnerships with external educational partners.
  • A committed, dedicated, and team-oriented faculty.
