Solution Engineer

Responsible for the technical design, development, integration, testing, maintenance, and technical support of business applications.

Solution Engineer 

Reports to: Head of Applications, Automation & Business Intelligent 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT 

• Design, build, test, and maintain full-stack business applications (front-end, back-end, and APIs) in line with agreed architecture and coding standards. 
• Proficient in Python (Django & FastAPI) & JavaScript (React) 
• Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code; participate in peer code reviews and follow secure coding practices (e.g. OWASP guidelines). 
• Use version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines to manage releases and deployments in a controlled, auditable manner. 
• Translate business and functional requirements into robust technical designs and solution architectures, in collaboration with business analysts and product owners. 
• Evaluate and recommend appropriate technologies, platforms, and design patterns to meet performance, scalability, and security requirements. 
• Produce technical specifications, data flow diagrams, and solution documentation for new and existing systems. 

APPLICATION INTEGRATION 

• Design and implement integrations between core insurance systems and third-party platforms using APIs (REST), web services. 
• Ensure reliable data exchange, message queuing, and error-handling across integrated systems; monitor and resolve integration failures. 
• Maintain integration documentation, interface specifications, and mapping of data between systems. 

QUALITY ASSURANCE & TESTING 

• Develop and execute unit, integration, system, and regression test plans to validate functionality prior to release. Support user acceptance testing (UAT) with business stakeholders and track defects through resolution. 
• Apply automated testing tools/frameworks where appropriate to improve test coverage and release quality. 

DATABASE SUPPORT 

• Design, optimize, and maintain relational database schemas, stored procedures, and queries (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or MySQL). 
• Monitor database performance, manage backups, and support data migration, cleansing, and reconciliation activities. Ensure data integrity and adherence to data governance and protection standards. 

APPLICATION SUPPORT 

• Provide second- and third-line technical support for business-critical applications, ensuring timely diagnosis and resolution of incidents. 
• Perform root-cause analysis of recurring issues and implement permanent fixes or preventive measures. 
• Maintain system availability through proactive monitoring, patching, and routine maintenance. 

SECURITY & TECHNICAL CONTROLS 

• Apply application and data security best practices, including access controls, encryption, and secure configuration of systems. 
• Support internal and external IT audits and ensure compliance with relevant regulatory and information security requirements. 
• Identify and escalate technical risks and vulnerabilities, and contribute to their remediation. 

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE 

EDUCATION 

Master or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. 

TECHNICAL EXPERTISE 

• Programming & Development: Proficiency in at least one modern back-end language (e.g. Python) and front-end technologies (HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and a modern framework such as React). 
• Databases: Strong working knowledge of relational databases (SQL Server, Oracle, or PostgreSQL), including query writing, performance tuning, and stored procedures. 
• Integration: Practical experience with API design and consumption (REST), web services, and integration/middleware tools. 
• Testing & QA: Familiarity with software testing methodologies and tools, including test automation frameworks. 
• Tools & Practices: Working knowledge of version control (Git), Agile/Scrum delivery, and CI/CD pipelines. 

Security: Understanding of application security principles and secure development practices. 

EXPERIENCE 

• Minimum of 3 years' experience in full-stack development (front-end and back-end). 
• Experience in insurance operations and/or in the financial services environment is preferred. 

PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS 

Relevant professional certifications (e.g. in software development, databases, integration, or cloud platforms) will be considered an added advantage.
