Position Overview

The Student Services & Welfare Coordinator will be responsible for promoting student wellbeing, welfare, engagement, and success across all AHSU programs and teaching hospitals. The successful candidate will serve as the primary liaison between students, faculty, teaching hospitals, and university leadership, ensuring that students receive the support necessary to thrive academically, professionally, and personally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and support the well-being and welfare of students, including residents and undergraduate students.
  • Serve as the focal point for student concerns and welfare-related matters.
    Coordinate and follow up on student stipends, allowances, and other welfare-related issues.
  • Conduct regular engagement and follow-up visits with students at teaching hospitals and clinical training sites.
  • Support students facing academic, professional, social, or personal challenges and facilitate access to appropriate support services.
  • Establish and coordinate the Student Representative Council (SRC) and support student leadership initiatives.
  • Organize orientation programs, wellness activities, and student engagement events.
  • Liaise with faculty, hospital administrators, and university departments on matters affecting student welfare.
  • Maintain records and prepare reports on student welfare, wellbeing, and engagement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Registrar.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • Bachelor's degree in Medicine (MBBS, MBChB, MD, or equivalent), Education, Psychology, Public Health, Social Work, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of relevant professional experience.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with students and multiple stakeholders.

Preferred

  • A medical doctor qualification is strongly preferred due to the nature of the role and the need to understand the realities of clinical training, residency education, and student experiences within teaching hospitals.
  • Experience in medical education, residency training programs, student affairs, academic administration, mentorship, or healthcare management.
  • Postgraduate qualification in education, public health, leadership, counseling, or a related field is an added advantage.
