Shagasha Tea Company Ltd is one of Rwanda's leading tea producers, located in the lush and fertile highlands of Rusizi District, Western Province. The company is dedicated to the cultivation, processing, and marketing of high-quality tea for both local and international markets, and is seeking to recruit a dynamic, self-motivated, and qualified individual to fill the following vacant position:

Job Title: Tea Maker

Department: Tea Making (Factory)
Reports to: Production manager/Senior Tea maker
Supervises: Capitas

Overall purpose of the role

To ensure efficient and cost-effective tea manufacturing operations through optimum utilization of resources, adherence to quality and food safety standards, effective supervision of production processes, and maintenance of a safe and productive working environment.

Key Objectives

  • Ensure effective and efficient utilization of production resources
  • Produce high-quality tea that meets company and customer specifications
  • Achieve production targets while maintaining cost efficiency
  • Maintain a safe, hygienic, and environmentally compliant working environment
  • Ensure reliability and proper maintenance of production equipment
  • Contribute to the achievement of the company's operational and financial goals

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor tea processing operations to ensure production targets are achieved efficiently
  • Review and improve production methods and manufacturing techniques for optimal resource utilization
  • Coordinate with other factory sections to ensure effective production planning and operational efficiency
  • Ensure all tea products consistently meet established quality standards and specifications
  • Coordinate and supervise daily production activities within the tea manufacturing section
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, occupational health, safety, and food safety standards and regulations
  • Participate in the preparation of departmental budgets and ensure adherence to approved budget allocations
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of production strategies and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and housekeeping throughout the production unit
  • Supervise, appraise, mentor, and identify training and development needs of Assistant Tea Makers and other production staff
  • Participate in the review and development of factory policies, procedures, and operational strategies
  • Prepare accurate and timely production reports for management and other relevant stakeholders
  • Conduct process capability studies and recommend process improvements where necessary
  • Train employees in production methods, quality standards, operational procedures, and process specifications
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement cost reduction and process efficiency improvement initiatives
  • Report on any changes that may affect food safety to the Food Safety Team
  • Report all food safety concerns promptly to the Food Safety Team Leader
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Factory Manager

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree (A0) in Food Science and Technology, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Agriculture, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field
  • Computer literacy is required

Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of tea manufacturing processes, food safety management systems (HACCP, FSSC), and quality management principles is an added advantage
  • Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills

Experience

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of relevant experience in tea manufacturing, food processing, or a related production environment
