Consultancy for a Strategy, Data and Programme Support Consultant (Six Months)

1. Background

Sight and Life is a foundation delivering science-based solutions to close the nutrition gap and improve the lives of vulnerable women and children in low- and middle-income countries. Its work spans research, the design and testing of sustainable delivery models, and partnership-led scale-up, with the ambition of contributing to a world free from malnutrition.

As Sight and Life’s programmes continue to grow, the organisation seeks additional support to keep programme information and documentation well organised, strengthen monitoring and evaluation, and assist the team in drafting grant proposals and reports. Sight and Life is therefore seeking a qualified individual consultant to serve as Strategy, Data and Programme Support Consultant, providing support across Sight and Life’s programmes as priorities evolve.

2. Objectives

The overall objective of this assignment is to support Sight and Life’s programmes with coordination and documentation, data management and monitoring and evaluation (M&E), report drafting, and the drafting of grant proposals over a six-month period.

The specific objectives are:

  • To support the organisation of programme information and ensure documents and records are complete and up to date.
  • To support monitoring and evaluation, including data entry, dashboard updating, and field monitoring.
  • To support the preparation and drafting of progress and programme reports.
  • To support the team in drafting grant proposals and concept notes.

3. Scope of Work

The consultant will provide support to the Sight and Life team across the following areas, delivered through the indicative work plan set out in Section 5.

3.1 Programme Coordination and Documentation Support

  • Support the Sight and Life team in organising programme information and keeping documents and records up to date.
  • Help compile, file, and complete programme documents as directed by the team.
  • Provide day-to-day coordination support across Sight and Life’s programmes.

3.2 Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Support

  • Support monitoring and evaluation activities, including entering and updating data in the monitoring dashboard.
  • Participate in field monitoring activities and record and share the findings.
  • Support the preparation and drafting of progress reports.

3.3 Grant Proposal Drafting Support

  • Support the Sight and Life team to draft grant proposals and concept notes.
  • Assist in gathering the information, background, and supporting documents needed for proposals.
  • Help format, compile, and finalise proposal documents as directed by the team.

3.4 Meetings, Trainings and General Support

  • Attend meetings, trainings, and workshops, and prepare brief reports on them.
  • Support the team in drafting reports and completing programme documentation.
  • Provide general support to the Sight and Life team as required.

4. Deliverables and Expected Outputs

The consultant will be expected to produce the following outputs. All deliverables shall be submitted in English and approved by the supervisor before being considered final:

  • Orientation / Onboarding Note: A short note summarising Sight and Life’s programmes, tools, reporting templates, and ways of working, submitted at the end of Month 1.
  • Organised Files and Records: Up-to-date, well-organised programme documents and records maintained throughout the assignment.
  • Updated Monitoring Dashboard: Data entered and regularly updated in the monitoring dashboard.
  • Meeting, Training and Workshop Reports: Brief reports on meetings, trainings, and workshops attended.
  • Field Monitoring Notes: Documented findings from field monitoring activities.
  • Draft Progress Reports: Draft reports prepared in support of the team’s reporting obligations.
  • Grant Proposal Inputs: Support inputs and drafts for grant proposals and concept notes, including compiled supporting documents.
  • End-of-Assignment Summary and Handover Note: A brief summary of the activities carried out during the assignment, together with a handover of complete and up-to-date files.

5. Duration and Timeline

The assignment is for a period of six (6) months from the date of contract signature, with an indicative start in October 2026. The plan begins with onboarding and familiarisation, followed by ongoing support to documentation, data management and M&E, report drafting, and grant-proposal drafting. Timing is indicative and may be adjusted by mutual agreement as needs evolve.

The indicative work plan is as follows:

Month 1 — Onboarding and Familiarisation

  • Meet the Sight and Life team and understand its programmes, tools, and ways of working.
  • Familiarise with the monitoring dashboard, key documents, and reporting templates.
  • Begin organising and filing programme information and documents.

Deliverables: Short orientation / onboarding note; organised and up-to-date files.

Month 2 — Documentation and Data Entry

  • Support organising programme information and keeping documents up to date.
  • Enter and update data in the monitoring dashboard.
  • Attend meetings and prepare brief meeting reports.

Deliverables: Updated documents and records; updated monitoring dashboard.

Month 3 — Monitoring and Evaluation Support

  • Support M&E activities, including data entry and updating of the monitoring dashboard.
  • Participate in field monitoring activities and record the findings.
  • Attend trainings and workshops and prepare brief reports on them.

Deliverables: Field monitoring notes; training/workshop reports and an updated dashboard.

Month 4 — Report Drafting Support

  • Support the drafting of progress reports.
  • Continue data entry and updating of the monitoring dashboard.
  • Help compile and complete programme documents.

Deliverables: Draft progress reports; completed programme documents.

Month 5 — Grant Proposal Drafting Support

  • Support the Sight and Life team to draft grant proposals and concept notes.
  • Gather the information and supporting documents needed for the proposals.
  • Help format and finalise the proposal documents.

Deliverables: Support inputs and drafts for grant proposals / concept notes.

Month 6 — Consolidation and Handover

  • Continue supporting M&E, dashboard updating, and report drafting.
  • Ensure documents and files are complete and up to date.
  • Prepare a brief summary of the activities carried out during the assignment.

Deliverables: Updated dashboard and complete files; end-of-assignment activity summary and handover note.

Performance and deliverables will be reviewed at the end of the engagement. The contract is renewable upon a satisfactory post-consultancy evaluation.

6. Working Approach, Reporting and Supervision

The consultant will work under the guidance of the Sight and Life team and shall report directly to the Programme Managers, under the overall guidance of the Africa Director. The consultant will provide day-to-day support to documentation, data management and M&E, report drafting, and grant-proposal drafting as required. Progress updates shall be shared on a bi-weekly basis, or at a frequency mutually agreed upon at the start of the assignment.

This engagement is intended to support the smooth running of Sight and Life’s programmes and to build the consultant’s practical experience in support of the Foundation’s mission to end malnutrition.

7. Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • A bachelor’s degree in public health, nutrition, statistics, sciences and psychology , development studies, or a related field. 
  • Experience in programme management, documentation, data management, or monitoring and evaluation, preferably in international development.
  • Hands-on experience with data entry, data management ; strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office suite. 
  • Experience supporting the drafting of reports, grant proposals, or concept notes.
  • Experience participating in field monitoring activities and documenting findings.
  • Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Proficiency in Kinyarwanda is an asset.
