U’MWIZA-RWANDA/UNBOUND PROJECT
INVITATION TO BID / TENDER DOCUMENT
CONSTRUCTION OF TWO CLASSROOMS FOR A TVET FACILITY
Gasabo District, Rusororo Sector, Kigali City, Rwanda
1. Background of U’Mwiza-Rwanda and project introduction
U’Mwiza-Rwanda, in collaboration with the Government of Rwanda, implements community-based initiatives aimed at addressing key challenges affecting vulnerable children, youth, families and communities. Through its collaboration with relevant government institutions and local authorities, U’Mwiza-Rwanda supports initiatives that promote access to education, skills development, social inclusion and opportunities for vulnerable community members to improve their livelihoods through implementing initiatives that respond to identified community needs.
As part of these efforts, U’Mwiza/Unbound Rwanda project is implementing a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) initiative in Gasabo District, Rusororo Sector, Kigali City, with outreach to young people from Rusororo and Bumbogo sectors. The initiative responds to the limited access to affordable vocational training opportunities available to vulnerable and out-of-school youth in the area. The project specifically targets youth aged between 15 and 30, including school dropouts, economically vulnerable young people, young women and other disadvantaged groups who face barriers to accessing skills development opportunities.
The TVET initiative is designed to provide practical and market-oriented training in tailoring and masonry, combining technical skills with mentorship and basic entrepreneurship training. Approximately 150 young people are expected to be trained and graduate each year through the program. The project seeks to equip young people with practical skills that can increase their opportunities for employment, self-employment and income generation.
The need for the project has been identified through consultations with community members, local leaders and government representatives, together with observations and community feedback regarding unemployment, school dropout and the absence of accessible TVET facilities in the area.
To respond to these needs, U’Mwiza/Unbound Rwanda Project is supporting the construction of two classrooms that will form part of the TVET training facility. Each classroom will measure approximately 8 metres by 7 metres, providing approximately 56 m² of floor space, with an internal height of 5.30 metres. The classrooms are intended to provide a safe, functional, durable and conducive learning environment for practical and vocational training.
Accordingly, U’Mwiza/Unbound Rwanda invites qualified and competent construction contractors to submit bids for the construction of the two TVET classrooms.
