JOB ADVERT - Mining Supervisor

Trinity Musha Mines Ltd is a Mining company focused on the production and exploration of Tin, Tantalum, and Lithium in Rwanda. Trinity Musha is currently inviting suitable candidates to apply for the following position:

i. Position/Job Title: Mine Supervisor

ii. Grade: C4 

iii. Department: Mining

iv. Reports To: Mining Section Leader

Job Brief: The Mine Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the day-to-day mining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and productive mining activities within the designated area.

Responsibilities: The Mine Supervisor has the following responsibilities and duties:

1. Supervise Mining Operations:

• Coordinate and direct mining activities, including drilling, blasting, excavation, hauling, and ore processing, to meet production targets and quality standards.
• Allocate resources, such as manpower, equipment, and materials, to optimize efficiency and productivity.
• Monitor production schedules, equipment performance, and ore grades to identify and address operational issues or bottlenecks.
• Supports the Mining Team Leaders to ensure that production team delivers on the daily planned production and necessary measures are taken whenever the production targets are not met.
• Observe and enforce any code of practice, instructions, procedures, directives, permissions, exemptions etc. issued by the Mine Manager or any other person authorized to do so 

2. Ensure Health and Safety Compliance:

• Inspect all other workings, in your area of responsibility, at least once a week 
• Be responsible for the proper discipline of all persons working under your charge Provide and maintain a working environment that is safe and without risk to the health and safety of employees within your area of responsibility
• Identify relevant hazards and assess the related risks within your area of responsibility
• Implement and enforce safety protocols, procedures, and regulations to minimize risks and prevent accidents or injuries.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, hazard assessments, and safety training sessions for mining personnel.
• Investigate incidents or near misses, report findings, and recommend corrective actions to improve safety performance.
• Ensure adherence to the SHEC laws, regulations and policies

3. Maintain Equipment and Infrastructure:

• Oversee maintenance and repair activities for mining equipment, vehicles, and infrastructure to ensure operational reliability and longevity.
• Schedule preventive maintenance tasks, inspections, and repairs to minimize downtime and maximize equipment availability.
• Coordinate with maintenance staff and suppliers to procure spare parts, components, and consumables as needed.

4. Management of Personnel:

• Ensure that people under your supervision adhere to HR Policies and Procedures
• Provide Employees within your area of responsibility with any information, instructions or supervision that is necessary to enable them to perform their work professionally, safely and without risks
• Consider Employees’ training and capabilities before assigning tasks to them
• Ensure that all persons working under your charge are fully trained on job training or otherwise in their tasks.
• Responsible for staffing needs of the area of responsibility
• Supervise and mentor mining staff, including operators and labourers, to ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and performance standards.
• Provide leadership, guidance, and support to promote teamwork, motivation, and professional development among team members.
• Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address disciplinary issues or concerns in accordance with HR policies.

5. Environmental Monitor and Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and standards governing mining operations, waste management, and land reclamation.
• Implement environmental management practices, such as erosion control, water management, and rehabilitation measures, to minimize environmental impacts.

6. Data Collection and Reporting:

• Record in ink in your logbook the following during or at the conclusion of your shift:

1. The designation of every working place or other working place inspected by yourself during your shift
2. Particularly of any unsatisfactory conditions of working places, traveling ways or other workings in your area of responsibility as observed by yourself or reported to you by the Mine team leader or any other person, specifically in respect of ground conditions and where safety of people are concerned
3. Any instructions given by you to secure the health and safety of persons under your charge and adhered to.

• Give regular reports on the Production, HSEC, Security and HR to the Section team leader / Site manager for your designated area of responsibility.

• Prepare regular reports, dashboards, and presentations for management review, highlighting key operational KPIs, trends, and challenges.

7. Job Requirements: The Mine Supervisor should have the following education, experience and skills:

1. Bachelor’s degree/Advanced diploma in mining Engineering
2. At least 3 years Certification in mining from a competent mining school
3. Experience of at least 3 years in the field.
4. Physical fitness.
5. Excellent Communication skills (English preferable)
6. Willing to work overtime
7. Good supervisor skills and be able to delegate different work to workers/Team work spirit
